Wow was it chilly last night! The temperature was near freezing overnight. We were thankful for our warm sleeping bags. In the morning it was so cold we did not want to bother making coffee and cooking breakfast so we headed out early for the park. We were early enough that we were able to get in before the crowds. On the way we stopped for coffee and then had a picnic breakfast of yogurt and granola at one of the Grand Canyon overlooks. This was a very picturesque way to eat breakfast.

The road out of the park passes the Desert Watchtower. We decided to stop there again to see the views in the morning light. When we walked by the tower it was just opening for the day, so we were among the first people to enter and did not have to wait in line and it was not crowded. The tower is amazing! We were expecting a plain interior. The first floor of the tower has a traditional stacked roof, then the walls and ceilings of each floor above the ground are decorated with traditional paintings. It was absolutely amazing!

After leaving the Grand Canyon we had a beautiful drive along the little Colorado River then along the Kaibito Plateau to Page, Arizona. We stopped at Horseshoe Bend to enjoy the view.

We visited the information center at the Glen Canyon Dam and watched the movie about the construction of the dam and the creation of Lake Powell then found a campsite at Wahweap Campground with great views of Lake Powell.
